Allergan's textured silicone implants and tissue expanders were linked to the development of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), and on July 24, 2019, the company voluntarily recalled the products from the global market and discontinued sales.
BIA-ALCL is a rare disease, and the incidence rate is currently estimated to be 1 in 3,817-30,000. Therefore, implant removal is not currently recommended. However, patients who already have implants should have regular checkups every two years (preferably once a year).

Plastic surgery is a medical specialty that mainly deals with a variety of diseases related to the shape of the body surface. Our department handles most diseases that are treated in the field of plastic surgery.
Typical illnesses we treat include skin tumors (benign and malignant), trauma such as facial bone fractures, lymphedema, varicose veins of the lower limbs, ptosis, facial nerve paralysis, reconstruction for deformities and tissue defects after malignant tumor removal, polysyndactyly, congenital diseases such as ear deformities and cleft lip and palate, and cosmetic treatments.
We are constantly working on cutting-edge treatments in each field, using techniques such as skin examinations using a magnifying glass (dermatoscope), surgery using special instruments under a microscope (microsurgery), and delicate suturing techniques. By pursuing these techniques, we strive to not only treat diseases but also provide treatments that make scars as inconspicuous as possible, thereby improving quality of life (QOL).
In addition, our department is conducting research into the regeneration of central and peripheral nerves, including spinal cord injuries, and lymphatic vessel regeneration, with the aim of clinical application. Please feel free to consult with the Department of Plastic Surgery.
