  • We carefully manage the valuable samples and information we obtain from our patients during the course of their daily medical care. These samples and information, such as blood, urine, and tissue samples remaining after testing, as well as accompanying medical and follow-up information, may be used for research purposes in accordance with national guidelines.

Announcement of serious non-compliances regarding clinical research at our hospital

What is a major nonconformity?

clinical research method

Anything that affects the human rights or safety of the subjects or the progress of the research or the reliability of the results.

Ethical Guidelines for Life Science and Medical Research Involving Human Subjects

Anything that deviates from these guidelines so significantly that ethical appropriateness and scientific rationality are impaired.
However, in the following cases, the degree of non-compliance is considered to be serious, regardless of the content of the research.

  • When research is conducted without the approval of the ethical review committee or the head of the research institution.
  • If research is conducted without following the necessary informed consent procedures
  • When fabrication or falsification of research results is discovered, which undermines the reliability of the research content
  • When a report is received regarding "Leakage of Research-Related Information" as set forth in Chapter 6, Section 11-1(3) of the Guidelines

If a "major non-conformity" occurs at our hospital, we will make an announcement below.

"Serious non-conformity" that occurred at our hospital

*Currently unavailable.

Explanation 1

When using these samples and information, as a general rule, we obtain consent from patients for their use in research. However, in cases where it is difficult to obtain consent from all patients and the research is particularly necessary to improve public health, we may disclose the research content with the approval of our hospital's Medical Ethics Committee and permission from the hospital director, and use the samples and medical information for research only from patients who have not specifically requested not to have their samples and information used. However, as a general rule, written consent is required for human genome and gene analysis research.

Explanation 2

Laws and guidelines related to medical research (ethical guidelines for life science and medical research involving human subjects) require that research that analyzes these samples and information to gain new medical knowledge must publish an "information disclosure document" on a website or elsewhere. Furthermore, they also require that anyone who sees information about research that relates to them and feels they do not want their samples or medical records (patient charts and test images) to be used be given the opportunity to refuse their use (known as "opting out").
