Pediatric surgery deals with surgical diseases in children aged 0 to 15 years (neonatal, infancy, early childhood, school age, and adolescence) (excluding cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgery, and orthopedic surgery).
"Children are not miniature adults," is a phrase often used when explaining pediatric surgery. In other words, a child's body is not fully developed like an adult's. All of a child's organs are still in the process of development and their functions are immature. Therefore, surgery on children must be performed by pediatric surgeons who have specialized knowledge and training in children.
Our pediatric surgery department has a strong staff of five this year, and we provide medical care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Please feel free to consult us about any suspected pediatric surgical issues, including emergencies.
In our department, we consider the burden on patients and their families and perform surgery as a day surgery (no overnight stay) whenever possible. Many surgeries, such as those for inguinal hernias and undescended testicles, can be performed as day surgery, so please feel free to consult us.
We strive to perform surgeries that leave minimal scars, and actively pursue minimally invasive endoscopic surgery. We also have four pediatric surgeons certified by the Japanese Society of Endoscopic Surgery, and perform advanced endoscopic surgery safely (there are very few hospitals in Japan that have four certified pediatric endoscopic surgeons). We also focus on ensuring that scars are healed cleanly in every surgery.
All of our pediatric surgery staff are specialists of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Surgery. All surgeries are performed by staff with specialized knowledge. We also have three pediatric surgery instructors who are even higher-level specialists, and we strive to perform safe and careful surgeries (there are very few hospitals with three pediatric surgery instructors).
