Since its opening in 1962, the Department of Neurosurgery has been treating a variety of neurological disorders, including brain tumors, strokes, cerebrovascular disorders, trauma, spinal and spinal cord diseases, as well as trigeminal neuralgia, facial spasms, Parkinson's disease, tremors, and hydrocephalus.

In particular, we boast some of the best surgical results in Japan for brain tumors, facial spasms, trigeminal neuralgia, Parkinson's disease, and tremors, and we also maintain a high level of treatment for cerebrovascular disorders and spinal cord diseases. The treating physicians are certified as specialists and instructors by the Japan Neurosurgical Society, and are also qualified in each of the following specialized fields: stroke, endovascular treatment, spinal cord surgery, neuroendoscopy, stereotactic and functional neurosurgery, and neurodecompression (microvascular decompression).

We are also equipped with the latest advanced facilities, from diagnostic imaging to treatment equipment, and provide care to patients requiring severe medical treatment in specialized wards such as the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Stroke Care Unit (SCU).

We accept consultations regarding treatment, especially for specialized content, by appointment. We also provide consultations for second opinions (Visitonline) are also accepted. Please feel free to contact us.

Characteristics and Initiatives

  1. Stroke Center
Our stroke specialists provide acute treatment, including thrombolytic therapy and thrombectomy, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Certified as a "Primary Stroke Center" by the Japan Stroke Society, we have four specialists from the Japanese Society of Neuroendovascular Therapy on staff, and are able to perform endovascular treatment (catheterization) at all times. This is a comprehensive stroke center that provides drug therapy, endovascular treatment, and craniotomy.
  2. Neuroendovascular Treatment
We use catheters to perform endovascular treatments such as thrombectomy for cerebral infarction, coil embolization for cerebral aneurysms, and stent placement for carotid artery stenosis. Our hospital actively performs these treatments.
  3. The latest treatments by specialist doctors
In addition to seven specialists from the Japan Neurosurgical Society, the hospital also has full-time doctors certified by the Japan Stroke Society, the Japanese Society of Stroke Surgery, the Japanese Society of Neuroendovascular Therapy, the Japanese Board of Certified Cancer Therapists, the Japanese Spinal Surgery Association, the Japanese Society of Neuroendoscopy, and the Japanese Society of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, who specialize in surgical treatment of neurological disorders such as cerebrovascular disorders, brain tumors, spinal and spinal cord disorders, and functional disorders. Optune treatment for malignant brain tumors is also available.
  4. Imaging equipment and specialized care units
The hospital is equipped with the latest CT scan, MRI and cerebral angiography equipment, as well as a fully equipped intensive care unit (ICU) and stroke care unit (SCU).
  5. Latest treatment equipment
We have introduced a new surgical microscope, Orb Eye®, a navigation system, a high-resolution neuroendoscope, and the latest angiography equipment, allowing us to perform surgery and treatment by viewing detailed microstructures deep within the body with clear images.
  6. Focused ultrasound therapy, deep brain stimulation therapy, intrathecal baclofen therapy
We provide surgical treatment for Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, writer's cramp, dystonia such as torticollis, and spasticity. We also provide focused ultrasound therapy for Parkinson's disease and essential tremor.
