Director of the Cancer Treatment Center
TERAJIMA Hiroaki
Cancer is the leading cause of death among Japanese people, and in today's aging society, it is said that approximately one in two people will develop cancer in their lifetime. Recent advances in cancer treatment have been remarkable, with new treatments and drugs being developed one after another and prognosis also improving significantly.
On the other hand, as treatments become more diverse, there is a demand for not only advanced expertise but also a comprehensive, cross-disciplinary medical system that transcends the boundaries of medical departments and divisions. This requires multidisciplinary team medical care not only in actual cancer treatment, but also in all departments related to cancer treatment, including palliative care, cancer counseling, employment support, rehabilitation, nutritional guidance, and genetic counseling.
As a core cancer treatment hospital in Osaka Prefecture, our hospital has positioned cancer treatment as one of its core businesses and is working to enhance medical care and improve its quality. As part of this, we have made progress in opening a radiation therapy center that uses the latest radiation therapy equipment (linac and brachytherapy), relocating and expanding our chemotherapy center, and establishing a palliative care center.
In addition, the Cancer Consultation Support Center provides patients with a variety of information about cancer, listens to their concerns and worries, and helps them find better ways to cope. We have also moved the consultation room from the 5th floor to the 1st floor so that more patients can use it.
Kitano Hospital has established a Cancer Treatment Center to enable these departments to work together across departments to provide comprehensive physical, mental, and social support to cancer patients. We will continue to strive to respond sincerely to the various pains and worries of patients and their families. If you have any concerns or worries about your illness, please feel free to consult our consultation desk or staff.
In addition, our hospital employs many doctors who have completed palliative care training courses in accordance with national training programs.
