This refers to a disease caused by abnormalities in the blood vessels of the brain. It is called various names, such as stroke, cerebral thrombosis, cerebral embolism, cerebral infarction, and cerebral hemorrhage. Cerebral infarction is when a blood vessel in the brain becomes blocked, and includes cerebral thrombosis and cerebral embolism. Cerebral hemorrhage is when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures, and includes intracerebral hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Symptoms of cerebrovascular disease vary, but a common feature is that they appear suddenly. A person who was fine just a minute ago may suddenly experience paralysis of the limbs, be unable to speak, or lose consciousness. Symptoms can be very mild, such as numbness in the limbs, but the disease can progress to paralysis, so early diagnosis and treatment are important.
