Phimosis is a condition in which the skin at the tip of the penis is so narrow that the glans cannot be fully exposed. In most cases, children are unable to fully expose the glans. This is actually normal. However, treatment is required in the following cases:
Generally, first, a steroid ointment is applied and the foreskin is stretched. The foreskin is pulled back and the medication is applied to the narrowest part. In most cases, the condition improves to the point where the glans is visible.
However, if this does not work or if the tip of the foreskin becomes inflamed and hardened, surgery will be necessary.
Dry preputitis obliterans
Repeated blancoposthitis can cause the tip of the foreskin to become white and scarred. The tip of the foreskin becomes hard and very narrow. This is called obstructive dry balanitis. Surgery is required when this occurs.
