Our clinic treats a variety of shoulder joint disorders (diseases) and trauma (injuries). Diagnosing the shoulder joint is considered relatively difficult, but ultrasound is extremely useful for increasing the accuracy and speed of diagnosis. Our outpatient examination room is always equipped with an ultrasound machine, allowing for on-site examinations.
Our primary focus in treatment is conservative, non-surgical treatment. For some patients, pain can be significantly alleviated by administering targeted injections to specific areas while monitoring an ultrasound. However, shoulder pain often persists for a long time, and depending on the cause, surgery may be necessary. Our first choice of surgery is endoscopic (arthroscope displayed on a high-definition 4K monitor) surgery, which places minimal strain on the body. However, depending on the disease, symptoms, age, and other factors, we may perform total shoulder arthroplasty (including reverse total shoulder arthroplasty) or hip replacement surgery, which are performed under direct vision without the use of an endoscope.

The rotator cuff is an inner muscle of the shoulder, and if it is torn, it can cause pain when moving the shoulder, and if the tear is large, it can make it impossible to lift the shoulder or put force into it. Symptoms often improve with conservative treatment, but if the pain caused by the catching does not go away or if the tear is large, surgery may be necessary. Surgery mainly involves using an endoscope (arthroscope) to re-fix the torn end of the rotator cuff to the humerus using an implant with a thread called an anchor.
The labrum is an important tissue that supports the joint, but if it is damaged, it can cause pain. In some areas, if it peels off, it can cause repeated dislocations and subluxations of the shoulder joint.
If dislocations and subluxations occur repeatedly, or if pain does not subside with conservative treatments such as rehabilitation, surgery is required. During surgery, an endoscope is used to fix the damaged labrum with an anchor.
As osteoarthritis of the shoulder progresses, it can cause severe pain. In particular, osteoarthritis associated with a rotator cuff tear can make it difficult to even lift the arm as it progresses, often interfering with daily life. The artificial joint used to treat osteoarthritis of the shoulder accompanied by a rotator cuff tear is a special type of artificial shoulder joint called a reverse shoulder replacement. Currently, reverse shoulder replacement surgery is restricted to doctors with extensive experience in shoulder joint surgery. In accordance with this regulation, our hospital only performs reverse shoulder replacement surgery using certified shoulder specialists.
