Parkinson's disease

As Parkinson's disease progresses, there may be times when oral medications are ineffective (wearing off), and symptoms of dyskinesia, in which limb movements cannot be controlled, may appear, with diurnal fluctuations in the severity of the symptoms. Patients in this condition may benefit from deep brain stimulation (DBS). The effectiveness and safety of DBS are assessed during an inpatient neurology examination, and DBS treatment is performed if deemed appropriate. Approximately 10 patients undergo this surgery each year.

essential tremor

Hand tremors are a common symptom in people over 60, but surgical treatment is available for severe tremors that interfere with daily life or work.

Our hospital offers deep brain stimulation therapy and thalamic coagulation (thalamotomy), and from March 2021 we will also be offering focused ultrasound therapy. Because focused ultrasound therapy does not require incisions, even those who have previously given up on surgery may be able to receive treatment. Please feel free to contact us for a consultation.

Dystonia, writer's cramp, torticollis

Dystonia is a disorder that causes twisting movements of the hands and body, interfering with daily life. There is also a type of dystonia that makes it difficult to move the hands when performing certain tasks, such as writing, drawing, playing musical instruments, or playing sports (writer's cramp, musician's/athlete's dystonia). Torticollis, a condition in which the neck twists or turns involuntarily, is also thought to be a similar disorder. Stereotactic brain surgery may be effective for these disorders, so please consult us if you would like treatment.

Tremor and Parkinson's Disease Outpatient Clinic

Our hospital has opened an outpatient clinic to treat the diseases mentioned above. For more information, please see the outpatient page below.
