Departments
The most important role of an anesthesiologist is to ensure that patients undergo surgery safely. We rarely meet patients outside of surgery, and when we do, it's usually the day before. By then, we gather a wealth of information about the patient from medical records and other sources. If the surgery is complex or the patient has a serious illness, we hold detailed discussions in advance with the surgeon, other doctors in related departments, and operating room nurses. We then meet with the patient to assess their physical condition and determine the most appropriate anesthetic method based on the type of surgery and the patient's condition. We also provide detailed explanations of the actual anesthesia procedures and side effects, ensuring that the patient is fully satisfied before deciding on an anesthetic method.
In recent years, there have been great advances in anesthesia medications, equipment, and techniques. While the risks of anesthesia are not zero, they are significantly smaller than in the past. Please rest assured that when you undergo surgery, all members of the anesthesiology department will do their utmost to minimize the burden on you as much as possible.
Please note that our hospital does not have an outpatient pain clinic.
KATO Shigehisa, Chief of the Department of Anesthesiology
You will be undergoing surgical treatment, and you will need to be given anesthesia during the surgery.
Anesthesia is not just about making you feel painless or asleep during surgery, it is about protecting your body so that it can best tolerate the procedure.
Our anesthesiologists will administer the most appropriate anesthesia method based on your physical condition and the type of surgery you are undergoing, and will constantly monitor your physical condition during the surgery to ensure that the surgery proceeds safely and smoothly.
Your consultation with an anesthesiologist will take place the day before your surgery (or the Friday before if your surgery is on a Monday), but we think it would be best if you had a general understanding of what anesthesia is before then, so we have created the following "Instruction Manual on Anesthesia." It may be a little long, but we hope that by reading it you will feel a little closer to what anesthesia is.
Also, please remember and organize the following items before your appointment. Please also organize any other questions, concerns, or requests you may have regarding anesthesia.
| Number of cases managed by the Department of Anesthesiology | 3,628 items |
|---|---|
| Number of general anesthesia cases | 3,184 items |
| Number of emergency surgeries | 414 items |
