Scar contracture is when a scar tightens. When contracture causes pain or restricts joint movement, surgery is indicated. If the contracture is small, surgery is performed to move nearby skin as a flap, but if the area is large, skin grafting or free flaps are indicated.
This condition can occur when extensive damage is caused from the middle to deeper layers of the dermis due to surgery or injury, and often results in red, raised scars accompanied by pain and itching.
The symptoms are similar to hypertrophic scars, but they can also occur in shallow scars such as acne scars. They tend to expand from existing scars, and are completely different diseases from keloids and hypertrophic scars.
Treatment methods ①-③ are the same as for hypertrophic scars. When surgery is performed, the keloid may be excised within the keloid to prevent it from worsening. After surgery, electron beam (radiation) irradiation is performed to prevent recurrence.
