Greetings

Chief Manager Takafumi Nishimura

Kitano Hospital established the Department of Medical Oncology in 2013 with the goal of improving the safety and efficiency of cancer chemotherapy (anti-cancer drug treatment) throughout the hospital and enhancing treatment options. We work in collaboration with all other departments involved in cancer treatment, with the goal of serving all patients receiving anti-cancer drug treatment. While cancer chemotherapy has made remarkable advances in recent years, thanks to various molecular-targeted therapies, including immune checkpoint inhibitors, and new anti-cancer drug combinations, the implementation of increasingly complex and diverse cancer chemotherapy, including treatment selection and side effect management, requires increasingly specialized knowledge and experience. Kitano Hospital's Department of Medical Oncology works in collaboration with the attending physicians in each department, and together with the Chemotherapy Center staff, we strive to ensure that all patients receive the most appropriate anti-cancer drug treatment with peace of mind. We appreciate your continued support.

Characteristics and Initiatives

  1. Chemotherapy outpatient clinic
We are responsible for outpatient chemotherapy in cooperation with the attending physicians of each department. On the day of treatment, we check blood test results and side effects to take measures and adjust the dosage and schedule of anticancer drugs. We also evaluate the effectiveness of treatment and discuss treatment plans with the attending physicians of each department, and explain the effects and side effects of the next anticancer drug treatment. We also handle telephone consultations (hotline) and emergency consultations if you feel unwell on days other than appointments. We also do our best to accommodate requests for second opinions on chemotherapy from patients undergoing treatment at other hospitals.
  2. Chemotherapy Center Emergency Response
We have an examination room set up within the chemotherapy center, which is also the treatment room, so we can respond quickly if a patient becomes unwell during treatment. Subsequent treatment plans and measures will also be discussed with the attending physicians of each department.
  3. Consultation
Even during hospitalization, we will discuss treatment plans together with the patient's attending physicians in each department in response to various consultations regarding chemotherapy.
  4. Development of chemotherapy regimens
A program that determines how various anti-cancer drugs are administered is called a regimen. When introducing new drugs or new treatments requested by each department, the optimal administration method is considered in consultation with nurses and pharmacists based on clinical trial data and the drug's package insert, and then registered as a regimen.
