This is a condition in which a hole (cave) in the skin remains in front of the ear due to an abnormality during ear formation during fetal development. Usually, the hole has a blind end (dead end). Most cases are located in front of the ear.
Although there may be no particular symptoms, sometimes dirt accumulates inside the pores and can lead to infection. If an infection occurs, treatment is required.

When there is no infection

When you have an infection
Preauricular fistulas that do not cause infection do not require treatment. If an infection does occur, the fistula (hole in the skin) must be surgically removed after the inflammation has been suppressed with antibiotics. If the fistula is not removed, infections often recur.
