This is a disease that causes small swellings to appear in the middle of the neck, which can become infected, red, and swollen, and the fluid inside can sometimes break through the skin and leak out.
This is an abnormality that occurs when the thyroid gland develops during fetal development, and it is thought that a thin tube extends from the tongue muscle and remains in a pouch-like shape under the skin. Secretions accumulate inside this pouch, causing it to swell.

The examination will be an ultrasound. There are other pouch-like diseases in the neck, and it can be difficult to differentiate.
Treatment requires surgery. If not only the subcutaneous sac but also the entire thin tube extending from it into the tongue muscle is removed, the condition will recur. Therefore, part of the small bone called the hyoid bone, which is in the path of the tube, must also be removed. There is no problem with removing part of the hyoid bone. In rare cases, the condition may recur. The incision is approximately 3-4 cm under the chin.
