Osaka City Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection Project

Pancreatic cancer is a disease that has few noticeable symptoms and is often discovered in an advanced stage. Therefore, in order to aim for early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, our hospital has been collaborating with six medical associations in the northern area of Osaka City (Kita Ward, Oyodo, Miyakojima Ward, Higashiyodogawa Ward, Tennoji Ward, Asahi Ward) and four regional medical support hospitals (Saiseikai Nakatsu Hospital, Osaka City General Medical Center, Yodogawa Christian Hospital, Osaka Red Cross Hospital) since 2013."Osaka City Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection Project"has started.

Additionally, within Osaka Prefecture, the following projects are being developed: the Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University Hokusetsu Project, the Kansai Medical University Hirakata Project, the Osaka International Cancer Institute, the Kinki University MAGURO Project, and the Sakamoto Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Clinic/Katsuragi Hospital Kishiwada Katsuragi Project (blue mark).

Since working on this project,We received many referrals from local private physicians, and when we compiled statistical data from five hospitals regarding the trends in the number of pancreatic cancer diagnoses and resection rates, we found that the number of pancreatic cancer diagnoses and resection rates had improved, as shown in the graph. The number of pancreatic cancer cases in 2022 was approximately 60 (of which approximately 30 were referred by private practitioners).
