The Department of Gastroenterology performs approximately 200 endoscopic submucosal dissections (ESDs) annually. While careful endoscopic diagnosis is performed on all cases before treatment, there are also rare cases where it is difficult to assess the extent, depth, and tissue type. In particular, such cases are reviewed within the department, and pathological images are compared (mapped) with endoscopic images to help guide future treatment.
