In recent years, the number of older pregnant women has increased compared to the past. Many of these pregnant women have various chronic internal diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases, and require special care during pregnancy. At our hospital, we manage pregnancy and delivery for these internal diseases in close collaboration with our specialized internal medicine department. Continuing specialized internal medicine management is often necessary even after delivery, and in such cases, we can smoothly transfer the patient to internal medicine care after delivery at our hospital.
Our hospital often treats pregnant women who have become pregnant through advanced reproductive technology. Recent attention has been focused on the possibility that pregnancies resulting from advanced reproductive technology may result in increased bleeding during childbirth, and our hospital has long been conducting clinical research into obstetric bleeding. Based on this knowledge, our hospital assesses the risk of bleeding through MRI scans in the third trimester of pregnancy, and proactively implements bleeding prevention measures, including pre-administration of autologous blood, for pregnant women at high risk of bleeding.
At our hospital, if an ultrasound scan taken during a mother's checkup during pregnancy suggests any problems with the baby, a pediatrician specializing in pediatric cardiology will conduct an ultrasound examination of the baby during pregnancy to determine the management plan for delivery.
We also handle a variety of high-risk pregnancies, including maternal complications, twin pregnancies, pregnancies resulting from advanced reproductive technology that carry the risk of excessive bleeding during childbirth, placenta previa, and fetal abnormalities.
After a cesarean section, the mother will have to bear the pain of the wound after the operation. Starting in the fall of 2023, our hospital will be using epidural anesthesia whenever possible during cesarean sections to alleviate postoperative pain (this does not apply in emergency surgeries, etc.).
Meanwhile, painless childbirth using epidural anesthesia has recently become more common in Japan, even for vaginal births. Starting in the spring of 2024, our hospital will be working with anesthesiologists to provide safe epidural painless (pain-relieving) childbirth. This service is available to multiparous patients who understand the importance of planned childbirth. Reservations are required, so please contact us early.
In addition to regular checkups by doctors, our hospital also provides prenatal checkups by midwives for pregnant women whose pregnancy is progressing smoothly. The midwives' perspective on checkups and advice on life during pregnancy has been well received. Of course, they always work closely with our obstetricians.
Additionally, for pregnant women who feel that Kitano Hospital is "a little far away" or that the checkup times do not suit them, if all goes well, they can have their regular prenatal checkups at a nearby clinic, and from the later stages of pregnancy, we can handle the entire process from prenatal checkups to delivery at our hospital.
Please feel free to consult with your outpatient doctor regarding prenatal checkups at the midwifery clinic or your regular doctor.
