In addition to mediastinal tumors, enlarged lymph nodes due to inflammation can also be found in the mediastinum. Mediastinoscopy is a procedure in which a small incision is made at the upper border of the sternum, an endoscope is inserted, and the area from the anterior wall of the trachea to the carina is observed. Based on diagnostic imaging such as CT scans, tissue samples from lesions and lymph nodes are taken, which are used to diagnose the presence or absence of cancer and inflammatory diseases.
