Specimens are prepared by applying directly to a glass slide materials such as sputum and urine excreted from the body, materials scraped from the affected area with a brush, or cells collected by puncturing with a needle.
The main purpose is to discover cells that indicate the presence or absence of tumor cells or precancerous lesions based on the characteristics of individual cells.
