Kitano Hospital's surgical program is aimed at those who wish to work in one of the following 10 surgical specialties: gastrointestinal surgery, breast surgery, pediatric surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiovascular surgery, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, urology, and otolaryngology/head and neck surgery.
The first year consists of all compulsory subjects (six months of internal medicine, three months of emergency department, one month of anesthesiology, and two months of gastrointestinal surgery), and the second year consists of seven months of compulsory subjects (one month each of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, intensive care unit, and community medicine, and one month each of thoracic surgery and orthopedic surgery as compulsory subjects for the comprehensive surgical program).Throughout the two years, including emergency on-call training, students are able to acquire the basic primary care skills required for their initial training, as well as learn a wide range of basic surgical knowledge and procedures necessary for surgical training.
During the remaining five months of the second year, students are free to choose from a wide range of departments, including internal medicine and pathology, and are not necessarily limited to the 10 surgical departments listed above. Students are asked to choose between three and five departments (one month per department, up to a maximum of two months) from all departments.
It is possible to study a number of elective subjects in order to find the specialty you want, or if you have already decided on the specialty you want, you can study the elective subjects required for that specialty.
Initial clinical training programs that specialize in surgery like ours are rare, but by offering a wide range of options, we believe that each individual can receive surgical clinical training that meets their needs.
