February 17, 2025

③ Basic "Ki" (Q7-Q10)

I don't really know much about hospitals.
There is something I would like you to know.
Having knowledge will come in handy in an emergency and give you peace of mind.
And you'll probably want to talk to someone
We will introduce you to the basics of hospital work.

Q7 Is it true that Kitano Hospital has many unique features not only on the outside but also on the inside?

AThe outpatient zone has an open-ceiling structure with an escalator, and is bright and open to help ease anxiety while patients wait for their appointments. The examination space has also been designed with few pillars to allow for flexible layout changes to accommodate the addition of new medical equipment.

Q8 What does the "Medical Research Institute" in Kitano Hospital's name mean?

AKitano Hospital was established as a clinical research hospital with the aim of conducting comprehensive medical research. On the seventh floor of the "New Building" to the west of the main building where consultations are conducted, there is a "Research Institute" consisting of eight research departments and a Medical Research Support Center, and in close collaboration with each department and division, research is conducted based on a wealth of clinical cases.

Q9 What is Pranahor? What does it mean?

ALight pours in from the top floor5th floorThe Prana Hall is a relaxing space where you can take a breather. "Prana" comes from the Hindu word meaning "energy or spirit of the universe," and was named with the hope that it would be a place where patients could receive energy. Be sure to look up from the center of the hall and enjoy the spectacular view of the atrium.

Q10 What are some things I can ask the Cancer Consultation Support Center about?

・About anti-cancer drugs and treatments that are difficult to ask your doctor about
・Treatment has caused changes in the appearance of nails, skin, etc.
・I just feel more and more anxious. Who should I ask about this?
・My friend got cancer, and I became anxious.
How should I treat a family member with cancer?
・I'm worried about money

A "You can talk to me about anything!"

As cancer treatment advances, living with cancer, such as "receiving treatment while visiting the hospital instead of being hospitalized" or "continuing to work while receiving treatment," has become common. Furthermore, as cancer has become more commonly covered in the media, even people who are not cancer patients are increasingly hearing about it. At Kitano Hospital's Cancer Counseling and Support Center, nurses trained as cancer counselors, as well as specialized nurses and medical social workers, listen to, address, and support the concerns and worries of not only patients undergoing cancer treatment, but also their families and friends, and those with vague anxieties about cancer.
