②What do doctors and nurses who have experienced disaster medical care in disaster-stricken areas think about "disaster prevention"?

Doctors who provide medical care in the event of a disaster (Inoue) and a nurse who wants to "protect as many people as possible from disasters" (Fujiwara).
Based on our experiences in the disaster-stricken areas, we, as medical professionals, first thought about what kind of disaster prevention plan is truly necessary.

I want people to imagine themselves in a disaster and develop an interest in it.

InoueIt is necessary to gain knowledge about disaster prevention, but I would like people to go one step further and develop an interest in it. If you become interested and ask yourself, "What would I be worried about if I were affected by a disaster?" or "Will general preparations be enough?", you will begin to see what you want to know and what you should research. This will clarify what you need to know and allow you to create a more effective disaster prevention plan.

FujiwaraThat's right. Of course, you can't choose the time or place of a disaster. But there are actually many things you can do before a disaster strikes. In addition to double-checking that you have all the necessary items in your emergency evacuation bag, you should also think about what you really need. There are also other things you can do, such as actually walking the route to the evacuation shelter or participating in an evacuation drill. When your house collapses, you will need to rely on an evacuation shelter, but first, I would like you to think about what you can do in your own home.

InoueI stockpile water, food, and other supplies in case a disaster strikes while I'm at work, and I encourage my colleagues to do the same. However, disaster preparedness measures tend to be temporary.
I am aware of it when I see news about earthquakes or heavy rains, but I forget about it once it's over.

FujiwaraEven if you are someone who only thinks about yourself and neglects to prepare for disasters, if you face a disaster while thinking about your family and other important people, your awareness of disaster prevention may change a little.

InoueThere are people in my family who are vulnerable to disasters, so I try to think from their perspective. For example, if you have small children, how do you prepare for their needs? How do you support elderly parents who live alone? I think that perspective can motivate people to take part in disaster prevention.

FujiwaraThat's right. First, get people interested in disaster prevention, think about what kind of preparations they need, and then get ready. Why not share that plan with your family and those around you? Even if the power of each individual is small, by sharing it together it will become a great force, and I think it will improve the disaster prevention capabilities of the entire community.
