Each clinic will primarily focus on providing medical care in their respective specialty areas, but we will do our best to accommodate your requests, such as balancing this with general pediatric care and providing an on-call system.

As part of the World Diabetes Day event, various activities will be carried out, mainly by members of the Diabetes Care Guidance Team. Our hospital's pediatric surgery department performs same-day surgery for children's inguinal hernias.

Inguinal hernia is a condition in which an organ inside the abdomen protrudes, causing swelling in the groin. It is the most common condition requiring surgical treatment for children.

You can come to the hospital at 8:15 a.m. for surgery, and once we have confirmed that there are no problems during follow-up observation, you can be discharged around 4:00 p.m.
(* Children under 6 months old and those with underlying conditions such as asthma or heart disease will be hospitalized overnight.)

The surgery is performed in a way that is minimally invasive for both the child and their family.

Significance of the study

Neonatal invasive GBS infection, including meningitis, is a very serious disease that can result in death or severe disability in newborns.

Traditionally, newborn invasive GBS infection has been prevented by screening mothers for GBS carriage in the genital area during pregnancy and administering penicillin during delivery, but there has been no research into whether this is being done correctly.

Therefore, we have decided to conduct a survey on actual screening methods in order to reduce GBS bacteremia, including raising awareness of the correct methods.

About GBS

GBS (Group B Streptococcus) is a bacterium that can normally reside in the vagina, and is rarely a problem in non-pregnant women unless they have a urinary tract infection such as cystitis. If GBS is present in the vagina at the time of birth, it can cause serious GBS infections such as sepsis, meningitis, and pneumonia in the newborn.

It is classified into early-onset type, which occurs before 7 days of age, and late-onset type, which occurs between 7 and 89 days of age.

GBS screening in pregnant women involves vaginal and rectal cultures. Testing before the 35th week of pregnancy is too early, and testing after the 37th week increases the risk that the baby will be born before the culture results are available, making the test results useless.

The Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology guidelines recommend culture testing at 35-37 weeks of pregnancy, but do not mention the need for enrichment culture.
On the other hand, US CDC guidelines recommend culture testing using enrichment medium to check for the presence of GBS in the vagina and rectum at 35-37 weeks of pregnancy.

At Kitano Hospital's Nephrology Department, we recommend chronic renal failure testing and educational hospitalization for patients with declining kidney function. We have created a one-week program using a clinical pathway, with patients admitted on Wednesdays and discharged the following Tuesday.

In our hospital's chronic renal failure testing and educational hospitalization,

1. In addition to renal function, abdominal ultrasound, electrocardiogram, ankle brachial pressure index (ABI), pulse wave velocity (PWV), carotid artery ultrasound, and fundus examination are performed before admission to determine the extent of cardiovascular disease.
2. Check for nocturnal hypertension with 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.
3. We will analyze your body composition and provide nutritional advice based on this.
4. A urine sample will be taken to assess your dietary intake.
5. In addition to doctors and nurses, registered dietitians and pharmacists will take the time to explain important points to be aware of in daily life, etc. Dietary therapy will be particularly discussed three times.

We will conduct tests not only to check kidney function but also to detect and treat vascular diseases, primarily arteriosclerosis, which become more common as kidney function declines. In fact, some hospitalized patients have experienced a slowdown in the rate of decline in kidney function and a disappearance of edema.
