We welcomed special guest Dr. Gordon Williams Jr., professor at Harvard Medical School, and other guests included Dr. Yoshimasa Shishiba, president of the Japanese Endocrine Society (currently the Science Council of Japan), Dr. Tetsuo Nishikawa, vice president of Yokohama Rosai Hospital (clinical professor at Yokohama City University), Dr. Kazunari Tanaka, director of Keihanna Hospital (former assistant professor at Kyoto University School of Medicine), Dr. Yasumasa Iwasaki, lecturer at Kochi University School of Medicine, and Dr. Yoshio Nakamura, head of the Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology at Amagasaki Prefectural Hospital (clinical lecturer at Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine). Session 1 consisted of a case study on primary aldosteronism, and Session 2 featured a special lecture by Professor Williams entitled "Aldosterone and Hypertension: Aldosterone as a Risk Factor for Cardiovascular Disease." Dr. Toshihide Yamamoto and other attending physicians posed numerous questions, resulting in a lively discussion that lasted nearly three hours, far exceeding the scheduled time.
Furthermore, the day after IKES, a symposium was held at the satellite of the Japanese Society of Cardiology, bringing together Professor Williams, Professor Peter Libby (also an author of Harrison's Internal Medicine), Dr. Jorge Plutsky, and other faculty from Harvard Medical School and BWH, as well as Japanese experts. During the panel discussion, Professor Williams commented, "I went to Kitano Hospital yesterday and realized how important it is for endocrinologists, cardiologists, and nephrologists to have mutual discussions."
