The first transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI) was performed at our hospital.

On October 24, 2024, our hospital performed its first transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI) in a hybrid operating room.

Until now, surgery for aortic stenosis has involved opening the chest, exposing the heart, temporarily stopping it, and replacing the aortic valve, whose function has deteriorated due to aging or other factors, with an artificial valve, known as "aortic valve replacement." However, this surgery places a certain burden on the patient, as it involves opening the chest and temporarily stopping the heart. In contrast, the TAVI performed this time replaces the valve with an artificial valve via a catheter inserted through an incision of just a few centimeters, which significantly reduces the burden on the patient's body compared to conventional surgery, and post-operative hospital stays also tend to be shorter than before. Our hospital will continue to provide treatment that patients can feel safe with.
