The Public Interest Incorporated Foundation, Tazuke Kofukai Medical Research Institute Kitano Hospital (Kita-ku, Osaka; Chairman: Nobuya Inagaki) will host a seminar on "Appearance Care During Cancer Treatment" on Thursday, October 10, 2024, inviting an expert from Shiseido Japan Co., Ltd. (Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Kentaro Fujiwara) as the lecturer. Participation is free.
Those affected by cancer may experience changes in appearance due to cancer treatment, such as dull skin and loss of hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes. Although these changes are not directly life-threatening, they can sometimes cause great psychological damage, and many people experience distress at not being able to live life as before. However, by learning to cope with these changes in their own way with a little care for their appearance, even if the changes in their appearance are difficult to accept, they can become a catalyst for coming to terms with them and living life as themselves.
Therefore, this time, we invited a "social area partner" from Shiseido Japan Co., Ltd., who is an expert in appearance care, to be the lecturer, and we created an opportunity for cancer patients, their families, and interested members of the public to learn about practical appearance care in a fun, hands-on format.
Last year, Medical Research Institute Kitano Hospital invited a lecturer from the company to hold an "Appearance Care Seminar for Medical Professionals," aiming to raise awareness and skills of medical professionals regarding appearance care, and is working to not only provide care for the physical discomfort caused by cancer treatment, but also to strengthen care that allows patients to continue living their lives as usual with peace of mind. By having patients and the general public learn directly from this event, the hospital hopes to raise awareness of appearance care more widely.
