Research Institute

To foster close exchange between medicine and biology from a broad perspective, to enrich the research environment, and to nurture young researchers who will lead the 21st century, the Medical and Biological Forum was launched in Kyoto in August 1992. Since 1994, the Tazuke Kofukai Medical Research Institute has been involved, and with the support of everyone, the forum has been held successfully.
Just as the development of recombinant DNA technology has brought about modernization in all areas of medicine, including diagnosis and treatment, medicine is based on biology and its development is supported by advances in biotechnology. The Medical Biology Forum is a new attempt to actively expand the points of contact between medicine and biology.
We appreciate your understanding and support.
The explosive growth in the amount of information in medicine and biology in recent years, along with the rapid development of technology, is fundamentally transforming traditional medical care, which has been based on the application of empirical techniques. It is clear that the foundations of every field of medicine are supported by biology, and at the same time, there is growing interest in biology research aimed at meeting the demands of medicine.
In Japan, many researchers are working hard in various fields, but the current growth in scientific research funding has yet to meet expectations, and the poor research environment in particular is often pointed out. What is even more worrying is the rigidity of the research system, forcing many talented young researchers in medicine and biology to discontinue their research at the most critical stage of their careers, which is a major obstacle to the development of academic fields.
Through the Biomedical Forum, a forum for research and discussion, we aim to foster interaction among young researchers in related fields and to discover and nurture outstanding talent. We also hope to gain sympathy from society through our proactive activities, and in the future establish a fund to nurture and support the next generation of researchers.
