After successful surgical treatment of
a painful empyema of the chest, from which he had suffered
for years, Masajiro Tazuke, the founder, donated much of his
private funds to Kyoto University. He entrusted Kyoto University
with his dream?to make medical treatment of the highest quality
available in Osaka. His donation became the Tazuke Kofukai
Foundation and with those resources, the Medical Resource
Institute was approved by the Ministries of the Education
and of the Interior, and established in the Department of
Medicine at Kyoto University in 1925.
In 1928, Hajime Seki, the mayor of Osaka City, sympathized
with Tazuke’s effort and donated the land needed for a hospital
for clinical research. This would become Kitano Hospital.
For over 80 years, as a clinical hospital established within
the Kyoto University Medical Department, Kitano Hospital has
been expanding as a medical center, contributing to the advancement
of medical science and returning the fruits of extensive research
directly to the patient. |
